Toyota is conducting two separate safety recalls involving certain Toyota Sienna and Yaris vehicles

TORONTO, Ontario, April 23, 2019 – The first recall involves certain 2019 Model Year Sienna vehicles and the second recall involves certain 2015-2017 Model Year Toyota Yaris Hatchback vehicles in Canada.

Sienna Recall

Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving certain Sienna vehicles in Canada. Approximately 96 vehicles are involved in this recall.

During the manufacturing process of the passenger side front doors, it is possible that a component may not have been welded properly. This could affect an airbag system sensor and could lead to nondeployment or inadvertent deployment of the passenger side front seat and curtain shield airbags. This can increase the risk of injury or the possibility of a crash.

All known owners of the subject vehicles will be notified by first class mail to return their vehicles to a Toyota dealer. The dealers will replace the passenger side front door sub assembly with a new one at no cost to customers.

Yaris Recall

Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving certain Yaris Hatchback vehicles in Canada. Approximately 17,546 vehicles are involved in this recall.

The subject vehicles are equipped with side airbag sensors installed in each of the front doors and wire harnesses that connect these sensors to the airbag control unit. These wire harnesses could corrode over time, which could cause the airbag warning light to come on. In addition, the front seat side airbags and curtain shield airbags could be deactivated or not deploy properly. Non-deployment or improper deployment of these airbags can increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

All known owners of the subject vehicles will be notified by first class mail to return their vehicles to a Toyota dealer. Based on production records, the dealers will replace the front door wire harness assembly in one or both front doors as necessary, with an improved one at no cost.
