Toyota Canada Reducing Its Carbon Footprint

TORONTO, ON., (December 10, 2014) – Toyota Canada is marching on a clear path– a path filled with smaller and smaller carbon footprints.

 

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. launched a $27 million Combined Heat and Power initiative at the Cambridge plant to reduce demand on local and provincial power grids; as part of the project, a greenhouse is being constructed to tap the heat produced by the cogeneration project to produce vegetables for local nonprofit organizations.

 

Toyota and Lexus hybrids have saved Canadians almost 260 million litres of fuel and helped avoid over 600,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. With the greatest variety of powertrains among all manufacturers, Toyota Canada is now offering Camry Hybrid as an option for consumers, which is being manufactured at a plant in Kentucky that is soon to be powered in part by green electricity.

 

At Toyota’s aluminum wheel manufacturer in Delta, British Columbia, 6,300 cubic metres of natural gas have been saved in the last 12 months, thanks to creative thinking on how materials are melted.
